Abstract:
This article examines the creative path of one of the prominent institutors of architectural activity in Soviet Siberia – Krasnoyarsk architect, urban planner, scientist, and publicist E. M. Panov. The subject of this research is the project and scientific works of the master viewed from the two perspectives (1) through studying the content of the author’s personal project method manifested in city-planning and architectural strategies, and (2) through the author’s interpretation of the works of other architects presented in the books, articles, analytical texts, graphic images. The works of E. M. Panov as a practical and cogitating architect-researcher is demonstrated by the combination of two aspects of his creativity – engineering and researching. The architectural and city-planning legacy of E. M. Panov – a prominent representative of the generation of Soviet architects of Siberia of the late XX century – testifies to the relevance of national architecture in the post-classical era, which is the time of Soviet modernism with broad arsenal of professional methods, developed by the academic schools of the past – the main compositional means, techniques of rhythmic-metrical relations, and artistic abilities of transmitting the conceptual visions.

Legacy of constructivism in Omsk: issues of preservation and actualization
// Architecture and design.

Abstract:
Within the framework of this article, constructivism is viewed not only as a phenomenon of Russian culture, but also as an important segment of architectural heritage. The authors analyze the prerequisite for origination of such art style along with specificity of its implementation in one of the Siberian largest cities – Omsk. Following the logics of covering the topic at hand, the author gives characteristics to the key aesthetic and constructive innovations of constructivism, its contribution into the development of architectural theory and practice, focusing attention on the peculiarities and factors of realization of the national trends in the context of the actual local space of a Siberian city. The authors underline the need for acknowledging the importance of constructivism’s legacy as a segment of architectural heritage. The research results allow assessing the characteristic and relevance of constructivism as a segment of architectural heritage, which is directly associated with the specificity of historical situation established in Russia within the post-revolutionary period. At this time, the buildings belonging to this art style are clearly underestimated, which is why many of them are still not protected as historical landmarks and are subject to reconstruction.

Evaluation of quality of the visual environment of public pedestrian spaces
// Architecture and design.

Abstract:
Qualitemetric methods in determining the quality standard allow quantitatively evaluate the quality of architectural environment of the public pedestrian spaces. Such evaluation must contain a sufficient amount of complex and singular indicators of quality of an object. One of the crucial complex quality indicators of the architectural environment of public pedestrian spaces lies in the quality of its visual environment. This article examines the two components (two singular quality indicators): assessment of the quality of visual environment from the perspective of videoecology, as well as assessment of the quality of visual environment from the perspective of condition and beautification. For obtaining objective results on the efficiency of functionality of architectural environment of the public pedestrian spaces, which allow acquiring objective and accurate information. Based on the methods of videoecology, the author develops the methodology of evaluating the quality of visual environment of the public pedestrian spaces that determines the quality standard of the visual environment of public pedestrian spaces alongside the directions for its improvement, as well as formulate practical recommendations. Accessibility of the means for conducting a graphical analytical examination tolerates the extensive application of this methodology in substantiating the assessment of design solutions and reconstructions of the established urban environment, increases the quality of inspections and accuracy of the results.

Abstract:
This article examines one of the methods of resolving the issue of ensuring the residents of the Russian regions with affordable and quality housing by means of application of the existing substantial historical experience in implementing the technology of prefabricated modular construction. The author leans on the example of experience of the active industrially developing regions of the country – Voronezh Region, Krasnodarsk Krai, and Krasnoyarsk Krai. The work analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of such construction technology, substantiates its application in the modern conditions, reveals the key value characteristics of such method, as well as provides a brief overview of construction industry over the past 30 years. The author describes the potential of architectural qualities of the volumetric modular buildings. As an example of explaining one of the quality characteristics of the external building envelope, the article presents a thermotechnical calculation through mathematical modeling of heat transfer. Conclusion is formulated about the level of correspondence of the modular buildings with the existing regulatory requirements, sanitary norms, and thermal insulation of buildings. The work considers the advantages of the main architectural qualities of volumetric modular buildings, as well as substantiates the purposefulness of application of such method as a promising direction in development of the construction sector of the prefabricated modular homebuilding.

Curvilinearity in architecture – the analysis of structural solutions for the Harbin Opera House
// Architecture and design.

DOI: 10.7256/2585-7789.2017.1.22268 URL: https://en.nbpublish.com/library_read_article.php?id=22268
Abstract:
At the present time, the curvilinear architecture is rapidly developing in many countries around the globe. The article provides a brief description of formation of the curvilinear structure of the buildings, as well as underlines their merits and flaws. The author analyzes the structural solutions of one of the most unique projects of contemporary architecture – the Harbin Opera House, which is designed by the Chinese architect Ma Yansong. Over three years of research demonstrated that the level of technical mastery, particularly pertaining to construction of the complex unique objects, is unfortunately not at an adequate level. The author claims that in the case of Harbin Opera House, the large capacities of the curvilinear formations have not been applied. The traditional approach towards designing of the building structures appears to be inappropriate, considering the modern forming methods. Curvilinear architecture, alongside any other, requires developing the own individual structural solutions.
