Abstract: It is typical for a human to wish to change and the improve the world around him as well as himself. Medieval philosopher Tertullianus did not understand why people were so reluctant to be themselves. Why do they always try to change their appearance, for instance? We can answer these questions if we think more about the identity mechanism.
