Abstract: The object of the study is the novel "Crossroads" by American writer Jonathan Franzen, which became widely known outside the United States and was translated into Russian in 2022. The object of the study is one of the female images of this novel - the image of Becky Hildebrandt, which combines a number of archetypal functions: a daughter in relation to parents Marion and Russ, a sister for brothers Clem and Perry, a bride for the young musician Tanner Evans. In the last chapters of the novel, Becky becomes a mother, thus passing through all the female family archetypal roles. Franzen's creative method, which tends to psychological realism, is focused on the specifics of the inner world of the characters, and it can be argued that the deep psychologism of his works is based on a consistent and systematic understanding of archetypal roles. The study of the heroine's image is carried out from the standpoint of an archetypal approach dating back to the works of C.G. Jung. The archetypal approach opens up to the researcher the opportunity to penetrate deeper into the psychological essence of a literary text. Female images, viewed from the point of view of reflecting archetypal features in them, appear in connection with other characters, and the gender-role specificity of their functioning becomes more visible. In the modern world, where the crisis of traditional values is clearly felt, a better understanding of the importance and complementarity of gender roles makes it possible to form moral supports leading both man and society in the direction of mental well-being. Archetypal analysis reveals one of the basic attitudes of the writer: a modern woman is forced to play several roles at once; the mixing of these roles, their instability inevitably lead to problematic situations in the life of not only the woman herself, but also her entire family.

Abstract: The object of the study is female images in the Alexandre Pushkin's novel in verse by "Eugene Onegin". The archetypal features of the images of Tatiana and Olga are the subject of the study. The author, relying on the works of K.G. Jung and T. Chetwind, characterizes the archetypes of the Bride and the Sister, which are very widely represented in folklore and literary texts. In the novel in verse "Eugene Onegin" Tatiana and Olga carry mainly the features of the archetype of the Bride, which is due to the peculiarities of the plot development. However, the signs of the archetype of the Sister, noted in these images, allow us to understand the specifics of the relationship of the characters more deeply. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that the archetypal approach was first applied to the analysis of female images in the creative heritage of A.S. Pushkin. The author comes to the conclusion that the archetypal features of the characters of the novel in the poems "Eugene Onegin" give the text a special psychological reliability, persuasiveness, realism. The analysis of these features allows us to conclude that in the poet's picture of the world, the bride-woman has enormous influence, disposes of the fate of her chosen one. The image of the bride in Pushkin's mind, apparently, was at that time closely connected with the themes of male self-determination, the search for existential ways, understanding the past and the formation of personal maturity.

Abstract: The article gives a brief overview of the existing classifications of female archetypal images. The author offers his own classification based on the developments of Tom Chetwind, which, in turn, are based on the works of C.G. Jung and are widely used in domestic and foreign psychoanalysis. The terminology of closely related ties used in the classification reflects the understanding of human ties inherited from the era of the tribal system: all members of the tribe were considered as relatives, united by one or another ties, standing in one or another relation to each other. It is noted that archetypal images can appear in a literary text from both the positive and negative (shadow) sides. The main conclusion reached by the author of the article is the following: the proposed classification seems to be the most appropriate for the purposes of literary analysis, since it describes archetypal images not as a set of static features, but as dynamic relationships within the plot. The novelty of the author's approach is also due to the introduction of the concept of "coordinator's point" (the term of I.N. Kalinauskas), which makes the model developed by the author applicable mainly for analyzing the features of the coexistence of "male" and "female" in a literary text. This approach assumes that the masculine and feminine are complementary, are simultaneously in opposition and interaction and are a condition for each other's existence: the masculine is manifested against the background of the feminine and vice versa.

Abstract: The subject of this research is lexemes of the thematic group “food and food consumption” in the novel by Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin “The Golovlyov Family”. The object of this research is the functional yield of these linguistic units in the text. The author of the article describes the functionality of food images in literature in form of the system of oppositions “external (existential) – internal (psychological)”, and “static-dynamic”. The four functions are differentiated: external static (food image as a detail scenery), external dynamic (food image as a theme-forming element), internal static (food image as an element of portrait of the character), internal dynamic (food image characterizes the dynamics of relations between the characters). It is noted that the thought on “low functionality” of gastronomic images in a literary text, which is expressed in some research, testifies to insufficient study of such rich material. Food as a literary image, as well as the motif of food consumption in a literary text always convey semantic meaning. In the novel “The Golovlyov Family”, the words with “food” semantics serve for the formation of external, existential aspect of narration, as well as internal, psychological aspects. Images of food alongside motifs of food consumption are characterological (describing portrait of the character) to a lesser degree, and more often used for demonstrating relationships between the characters.

The theme of intemperance is important for grasping the ideological content of this work, because it comes up more than once and associated with an entire range of characters. In literature and folklore, intemperance sequentially correlates with the theme of cognizing the truth and adoration of a woman. In the ancient practices of initiation, alcohol consumption carried a ritual nature, conducing the transformed state of mind. The presented in the article archetypical approach towards the literary text is based on the ideas of Carl Gustav Jung, as well as advanced in the writings of Russian and foreign literary scholars. The novelty of the conducted consists in the fact that the motif of intemperance in the novel “The Golovlyov Family” is examined from the perspective of archetypical approach for the first time, which allows determining the semantic universalities instilled in this work. The author comes to the conclusion that Saltykov-Shchedrin describes intemperance as a mystery, in which the dichotomy “abased – elevated” manifests in an unambiguous unity.

Abstract: The article deals with language (lexical) means with the help of which a motive of female initiation is formed in a literary work. As a material for the study, texts of Russian folk tales and works of Russian writers of the XIX century are used. The author’s focus is on the motive of female initiation in the novel Crime and Punishment by F.M. Dostoevsky. The study of linguistic means of creating the motive of female initiation in this novel, first carried out in scientific literature, opens up possibilities for a deeper understanding of the ideological content of the work. The methodological basis of the research is the ideas of Yu.M. Lotman and S.Z. Agranovich on the study of the mythopoetic foundations of literary text. Analyzing the lexical means of various thematic groups, the author comes to the conclusion that the motive of initiation in the artistic text goes back to the mythopoetic views of the people, reflects the basic collective ideas about the position of women in society. One of the most important functions of this motive in the works of F.M. Dostoevsky - the formation of the psychological credibility of the plot, which is the basis of realistic prose.

Abstract: The article is devoted to linguistic means that are used to create archetypes in Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin's novel 'The Golovlyov Family'. This novel is expressively recognized as the one with a very deep meaning, however, its psychological contents have never been fully studied. In this research Lyashenko raises a question about the role of archetypes the novel refers to. In particular, the researcher focuses on the mother's image represented by Arina Golovlyova. Analysis of that image from the point of view of the mythopoetic approach allows to better understand the message and ideological content of the novel. The theoretical and methodological basis of the research involves the ideas of Yu. Lotman, E. Meletinsky, and S. Agranovich regarding mythopoetical bases of novels written by different authors. Lyashenko also bases his research on the theory of archetypes introduced by Carl Jung and developed further by Erich Neumann. The scientific novelty of the research is caused by the fact that for the first time in the academic literature the reseracher views the image of Arina Golovlyova in terms of mythopoetical elements constituting the imag. The researcher concludes that by using linguistic means to create archetypes Saltykov-Shchedrin managed to provide a psychologically ideal image of the Golovlyov family relations. The writer described the Golovlyov mother not as a human being with her own merits and drawbacks but an exclusive figure 'programming' her children's fates.
