Abstract: This article explores the status of key definitions in constitutional law, including the basic constitutional concepts which define the purposes (therefore, values) of the Russian State. Among them are democracy, sovereignty, human rights, etc. The article considers the problems of the modern understanding of 'democracy'; the limits of state sovereignty; and the consequences of a lack of uniform interpretation of key constitutional-law definitions and their influence on the values component of domestic constitutionalism.
