Transformation of the caryatid motif from Forum Augusti in urban ensembles of Campania and Roman Spain. Semantics, stylistics and iconography

Abstract:
The object of research in this article is the motif of caryatids in the decoration of the Forum of Augustus. Along with other elements, it is repeated in the ensembles of the cities of Roman Spain and region of Campania. It is believed that the August Forum in its decorative program broadcasts the most important ideological markers of the Early Empire era. In particular, the caryatids decorating the attic of the portico are reduced replicas of the famous figures of the Erechtheion. Such a reference is connected with the glorification of Rome's power over Greece in the reproduction of its figurative system. The subject of the study was the process of transformation that occurs with the motif of caryatids in non-classical ensembles. Following the iconographic, stylistic and semantic changes in the caryatid motif in the ensembles of the cities of August Emerita, Tarracon and Puteola, the author suggests possible causes and options for the transformation of these decorative elements. The article focuses on the possible causes of such a transformation, and also attempts to clarify the concept of the "Forum Augusti model", which is found in the research literature in various meanings and variants, through the analysis of a single element. The lack of a single definition of this phenomenon makes it possible to infinitely expand the range of monuments that could be created in imitation of the metropolitan prototype. The author of the article does not support this position, focusing on a few ensembles in which not only the same iconographic schemes occur, but also the logic of the decorative system is preserved. As a result of the research, it was possible to clarify the concept of the Forum Augusti model, which implies not so much the reproduction of the iconography and stylistics of the original.

Abstract:
The main subject of the article is a comparative analysis of the cultures of political relations between the Soviet Union (USSR) and the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the middle of the twentieth century. The author examines in detail such aspects of the topic as ideologization and authoritarianism, centralization of power, control over society and the phenomena of political cults. The article analyzes the key principles and values underlying the political systems of both countries, as well as the strategic goals and methodologies used to implement them. The author explores how ideological principles, power hierarchies and nuances of the political process influenced the formation of civic consciousness and behavioral paradigms of citizens. The article also examines the historical, cultural and geopolitical determinants that determine the similarities and differences in the political cultures of the USSR and the People's Republic of China, and their impact on the domestic and foreign policies of these states. The research methodology includes a comparative analysis of historical sources and scientific works devoted to the political cultures of the USSR and the People's Republic of China, with an emphasis on the study of ideological, structural and socio-political aspects that shaped their development. The scientific novelty of the article lies in a comprehensive comparative analysis of the cultures of the political relations between the USSR and the People's Republic of China, which reveals both common features and unique features of each of them. For the first time, detailed parallels and differences between the two countries are considered in the context of ideologization, centralization of power and mechanisms of control over society. The findings of the study show that despite the common communist heritage, the political cultures of the USSR and the People's Republic of China developed along different trajectories due to national characteristics, historical events and internal political processes. The author argues that these differences have had a significant impact on the international positions and domestic policies of States. As a result, the article contributes to a deeper understanding of the processes of formation and evolution of the political systems of communist regimes, which is important for historians and political scientists studying the history and politics of socialist countries.

Abstract:
The object of the study is clothing as a sociocultural phenomenon, a product of material and spiritual cultures. The evolution of clothing is closely related to sociocultural changes in society. The subject of the study is the transformation of clothing in China under the influence of political, economic, social, and aesthetic factors after the beginning of Chinese economic reform and opening up policy. The significant changes have taken place in Chinese clothing, the main of which was the transition from a uniform style of clothing for the whole country to a variety of fashion and styles, as well as the revival of traditional clothing. The transformation in the style and production cycle of clothing in China is based on objective (technology development, market laws, global fashion trends) and subjective reasons (psychology, personal preferences and aesthetic tastes of consumers). There is always a concept behind the behavior in clothes, and the desire for beauty is the main driving force behind the development of clothing. The social psychology of imitation and difference contributes to the spread of fashion trends in clothing. The author's special contribution to the topic is a detailed examination of the impact on the transformation of clothing of political, economic, sociocultural, aesthetic factors, as well as cultural exchanges and folk traditions. The author traces the sequence of fashion trends in China in recent decades. Сontemporary changes in Chinese clothing culture are not limited to simply borrowing Western trends, but are accompanied by the emergence of postmodern ideas and the promotion of the globalization process, which leads not only to the technological and design enrichment of clothing characteristics in China, but also to the growth of cultural awareness and the revivalization of traditional and local cultures.

Abstract:
This study is a comparative lingocultural research. Its main goal is to identify the peculiarities in the interpretation of the concept of "politics" in Russian and Chinese linguocultures using the semantic context of this term. We compare how different aspects of the concept of "politics" are perceived in each of these cultures and analyze them within the context of cultural features, language nuances, and historical factors. In this research, we employ various scientific methods for analyzing and comparing the understanding of "politics" in Russian and Chinese cultures. These methods include comparative-historical analysis to study the historical context, generalization method for data classification, and semantic analysis method for understanding meanings and connotations. These methods help us better understand the similarities and differences in how different cultures perceive the concept of "politics". While there are numerous studies dedicated to comparing concepts in the Russian and Chinese languages, there is currently a lack of linguocultural studies that analyze the understanding of "politics" within the Russian and Chinese linguocultures. This underscores the scientific novelty and significance of this research. The results of this study will have a significant impact on improving cross-cultural understanding between these two ethnic groups. Furthermore, these results can be used in the development of educational programs in the fields of regional studies and comparative cultural studies, as well as in the process of teaching relevant languages.

Representation of the German in the Discursive Field of the Russian Classical Literary Canon

Abstract:
The article presents literary, sociological and cultural points of view on the problem of the literary canon, describes the mechanisms of canonization and defines the boundaries of the Russian classics. The author discovers a connection between the texts claiming the status of the canonical hierarchy and the question of ethnicity. The article establishes that the construction of both a national self-portrait and the image of a foreigner (the Other) are the most important functions of the classical canon. The object of this research is a unified discursive field of Russian classical literature. The subject is the generalized image of the German that forms in this field. The author, resorting references to current research practices of discourse analysis, establishes that the portrait of a German is based on such conceptual categories as: 1) the connection with the soil and nature, 2) the connection with roots, 3) reliance on reality and "mundanity", 4) planning, 5) positivism and subordination, 6) perception of life as a mechanism. The construction of the Other creates an opposition to the "Russian" in the structure of the classical text and builds a series of binary pairs: heredity / freedom, stability on the ground / ability to jump, clear planning / dreaminess, legalism / Paschality, self-aggrandizement / self-abasement, godlessness / Orthodoxy. The article reveals that the German hero acts as a constituent of the Other, provoking self-determination and self-identification.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the exhibition and creative activities of representatives of the Juelan Society and figures of Soviet unofficial art – a comparative analysis allows us to see common points regarding the choice of artistic means and techniques, themes and motives, the fate of creative associations. The purpose of the article is to determine the similarities and differences of the process of the origin of unofficial art in China and Soviet Russia. The author's field of attention includes identifying similarities in the choice of genre, composition, artistic means, as well as the semantic content of the images revealed in the works of artists. It is important for the disclosure of the topic to determine the features and common features in the organization of creative activity and communication between members of artistic associations. The study concluded that Chinese and Soviet figures of unofficial art rallied around small associations, "circles", clubs, societies, offering an alternative to the official and, from their point of view, regressive art view of independent creativity. The artists of the Juelan Society sought to instill a modernist vision in Chinese culture, and Soviet conformists decades later developed their own understanding of contemporary art. Their attempts had a strong influence on the work of Chinese painters of subsequent generations and became a phenomenon in the art of their countries, still have an impact on its development. Their ideas and creative findings are the sources of the processes that take place in the artistic worlds that cooperate in the field of culture of Russia and China.

Abstract:
The author examines the idea of "mind" in three linguistic pictures of the world - Russian, French and Chinese. The study is contrastive, the results are compared. The description of each idea is made according to a clear algorithm: the etymology of the word, the mythological roots of the concept, its compatibility, from the compatibility is distinguished real connotation according to V. A. Uspensky, a comparison of dictionary definitions is made. The aim of the study is to identify the peculiarities of the idea of "mind" in the Russian, French and Chinese languages. The purpose of the comparison is to see the similarities and differences in the worldview of different peoples. Scientific methods of research are: comparative-historical method, method of generalization, method of semantic analysis. This topic is understudied, no linguocultural studies analyzing this idea in Russian, French and Chinese culture have been observed earlier, which constitutes the scientific novelty of the work. The results will contribute to mutual understanding between peoples, forming a kind of conceptual bridge, and will also be used in courses on regional studies, comparative studies of cultures, and in the teaching of the respective languages.

Abstract:
The subject of the study is the cultural code "Rimon", covering phytomorphic symbolic images in the Jewish pictorial semiosis. The object of the study is the traditional symbolism in the pictorial practice of the Jews of the Crimea. The article uses the methods of semantic and semiotic analysis in deciphering the meanings of plant symbols of the pictorial semiosis of the Jews of the Crimea, the method of analysis of previous studies, the method of synthesis in structuring groups of signs. The authors consider the following aspects of the topic: the codes of the pictorial semiosis of the Jews of the Crimea are designated, their morphology, semantics, key meanings and the main code are substantiated. The phytomorphic Rimon code and its features are considered in detail. The main conclusions of the study are: 1. As a result of studying the traditional culture of the Jews of the Crimea, five main codes of the Jewish pictorial semiosis were identified, covering the following groups of symbols: skewomorphic (subject), phytomorphic (plant), zoomorphic (animal), numeric. The source of all codes and the generalizing code is the Sefer code (Book). The interrelationships between the codes, four key meanings – Creation, Paradise, Torah persons and Messianic aspirations are revealed. The semantic center of the code system is defined – the Torah and Aron Hakodesh, as a repository of the Torah. 2. The considered phytomorphic code Rimon is a symbolism of traditional images of plants, the mention of which is found in the Torah, as well as in the Talmud and Midrash. The images of plants in the Jewish reading convey the meanings of human virtues and negative qualities, and also indicate the Messianic hopes laid down in the Torah and especially in the Midrash of the Talmud.The scientific novelty of the study consists in the fact that for the first time a semantic-semantic analysis was carried out and the interrelationships of cultural codes in the pictorial semiosis of the Jews of the Crimea were determined, with an emphasis on the Rimon code.

Abstract:
The subject of the study is the Seljuk cultural code in the cultural landscape of the Crimea. The object of the study is the Seljuk style in the decorative and applied arts and architecture of the Crimea. The article uses the following methods: culturological (ontological and semiotic) analysis in deciphering the meanings of Seljuk elements, the method of historicism in the ontology of Seljuks in the Crimea, the method of analysis of previous studies, the method of synthesis in the identification of ethnic signs. The article discusses the following aspects of the topic: The semantics of the Seljuk code in the cultural landscape of the Crimea is revealed, examples and ways of applying Seljuk stylistics in decorative and applied art and architectural decor of modern and postmodern are considered. 1. The multinational cultural landscape of Crimea consists of the cultures of ethnic groups that inhabited the Crimea in different periods. The leading marker of the definition and self-determination of ethnic groups is religion and folk mythology, embodied in national traditions. A clear example demonstrating ethnic identity and its continuity is folk art. 2. The appearance of the Seljuks in Crimea and the wide spread of the Seljuk style, which has become one of the main components of the "Crimean style" in modern and postmodern architecture, is not accidental and is due to centuries-old ethnic migrations and the mutual influence of cultures. The Seljuk style, therefore, ceases to be purely ethnic, and becomes part of the cultural landscape of the Crimea, used in the decor regardless of the ethnic origin of the author / owner. 3. A special contribution of the authors to the study is the identification and justification of the Seljuk code as one of the main ones in the Crimean stylistics. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the semiotic and stylistic analysis of the Seljuk code in the cultural landscape of the Crimea.

Abstract:
The subject of the study is the cultural code of Judaism in the visual semiosis of the Crimea. The object of the study is the traditional symbolism in the decor of the Jews of the Crimea: Ashkenazi Jews, Karaites and Krymchaks. The article uses the methods of cultural (semiotic, ontological and hermeneutic) analysis in the continuum of signs of the traditional Jewish semiosis, the idiographic method in the concept of the totality of signs, the method of analysis of previous studies, the method of synthesis in substantiating the morphology of signs. The following aspects of the topic are considered in the study: five main codes of Jewish culture are identified, their morphology and interrelationships are substantiated, as well as key meanings and the main central code. The main conclusions of the study are: 1. The multiethnic landscape of Crimea is made up of the cultures of numerous ethnic groups. The main feature of the identification and self-identification of cultures is religion. The Jews of Crimea include Ashkenazi Jews, Karaites and Crimeans. A single source for cultural codes in the Jewish semiosis is the Torah (the Mosaic Pentateuch) for all three ethnic groups, and for two of them (Jews and Krymchaks), the interpretation of the Torah is also the Talmud. 2. Based on the studied material, five main codes of the Jewish visual semiosis of the Crimea are identified, each of which unites a certain group of symbols: skewomorphic, phytomorphic, zoomorphic, numeric. The unifying code and the primary source of all codes is the code Book (Torah). The interrelationships between the codes, the key meanings – symbols of Creation, Paradise, Torah persons and Messianic aspirations are revealed. The semantic center of all codes is the repository of the Torah – Aron Hakodesh, and the Torah itself. Thus, the ring pattern "from Torah to Torah" is revealed. 3. A special contribution to the research of the topic is the systematization of the cultural codes of the Jewish semiosis of the Crimea. The scientific novelty consists in the fact that for the first time a culturological analysis was carried out and the interrelationships of cultural codes in the visual semiosis of the Crimea were structured.

Abstract:
The article explores the concept of "conscience" in three language pictures of the world - Russian, French and Chinese. The study is contrastive, the results obtained are compared. The description of each concept is made according to a clear algorithm: the etymology of the word, the mythological roots of the concept, its compatibility are studied, the material connotation is singled out from the compatibility according to V. A. Uspensky, dictionary definitions are compared. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the representation of the concept of "conscience" in different cultures using the material of the semantic field in Russian, French and Chinese, then making a comparison in order to see similarities and differences in the worldview picture of different peoples. This topic is understudied, earlier there were no linguoculturological studies analyzing Russian, French and Chinese cultures, which is the scientific novelty of this work. As a result, a clear difference in the ideas of conscience in the three studied cultures was established. For a Russian person, conscience is an internal judge who punishes him when he commits an evil deed; for the French, conscience has no connection with power over a person, and even often yields to it; for the Chinese, conscience is a guide that a person can follow or deny. The results obtained will contribute to the establishment of mutual understanding between cultures, forming a kind of conceptual bridge.

The Role of Stained Glass in the Sacred Visual Semiosis of Religious Buildings in Crimea

Abstract:
The subject of the study is the role of stained glass in the visual semiosis of religious buildings in Crimea. The object of the study is the stained glass decor of the sacred architecture of the Crimea. The research uses the methods of cultural (hermeneutic and semiotic) and artistic (idiographic and structural) analysis of stained glass art in the sacred space of Crimean architecture, the method of analysis of previous studies, the method of synthesis in conclusions regarding the development of stained glass in the Crimean cult architecture. In the study, the authors considered the following areas of the topic: the development of stained glass art of the Crimea in sacred architecture; the meaning of color and subject symbols in stained glass compositions of religious buildings of the Crimea. The main conclusions of the study are: 1. Stained glass art, more precisely, its subject component, is not authentic for the Crimea, it appears in the decor of residential and public buildings during the late XIX century, the beginning of the eclecticism of Art Nouveau and imitation of Gothic and Byzantine models. Colored glass in earlier periods decorated the windows of well-to-do houses of representatives of various Crimean ethnic groups, however, stained glass as a phenomenon was not characteristic of sacred structures. 2. Due to its geographical location, Crimea is a multicultural and multi-confessional territory, where various religious trends developed: ancient pantheism, Byzantine Orthodox Christianity, Catholicism and Protestantism with the colonization of Catherine's time, Islam, Ashkenazi and Sephardic Judaism. Stained glass windows in religious buildings of various faiths, in addition to decorative function, play a symbolic role, conveying through color, symbolism of abstract and object forms one or another sacred meaning. 3. A special contribution of the authors to the study of the topic is the cataloging, art history and cultural description of examples of stained glass art in the sacred architecture of the Crimea. The scientific novelty of the study is that the authors for the first time carry out an ontological analysis of stained glass art in the sacred visual semiosis of the Crimea and analyze its semiotic aspects.

The Idea of Male Beauty in Russian and Chinese Cultures

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to present the results of a contrastive study of the ideas of male beauty among Russians and Chinese. These ideas are studied culturologically, through the restoration of the relevant fragments of national pictures of the world. For this purpose, both linguistic and comparative-historical methods are used. Russian concepts of beauty are analyzed in the corresponding concepts in the Russian language, etymology and modern meanings, Russian epics, the reign of Peter the Great, the XVIII - XIX centuries, the period of the Great October Socialist Revolution, the Stalinist period and the period of late socialism, modern ideas. To analyze the Chinese view of the subject under study, the corresponding hieroglyphs, lexical combinations, idioms, philosophical and aesthetic sources, and modern realities are analyzed. Such a multidimensional consideration of beauty in the Russian and Chinese pictures of the world caused the novelty of the study. Comparisons of Russian and Chinese are the main conclusion of the work: ideas about beauty are not just different, they are opposite. It is important to note that the image of the hero in Russian culture is a symbol of male beauty, and in Chinese, on the contrary, it is a symbol of a rude and unaesthetic person. The main oppositions are male/female, West/The East, rational/emotional — are characteristic of the Russian picture of the world, but they are not completely manifested in the Chinese ideas about beauty. The Chinese do not oppose, but combine what looks like an opposition in our culture.

Mutual Influence of Woodcut Art of China and the USSR

Abstract:
The article discusses the features of interaction and mutual influence of the art of woodcut of China and the USSR. Chinese woodcut and Soviet engraving reveal the greatest mutual influence and rich genre palette in the middle of the XX century. Chinese woodcut gave a creative impulse, enriched the visual possibilities, brought new ideas to the Soviet art of woodcut. It served as an impetus for the rise of graphics, which realized and asserted its specificity. In this regard, it seems relevant to identify common features of Chinese woodcut and Soviet engraving of the mid-20th century, as well as to identify differences in the development of this art form in the two countries. The article analyzes the works of famous woodcuts of two countries: Chen Yanqiao, Yang Han, Qi Baishi, V. A. Favorsky, A. A. Ushin. As a result of the analysis, the common features of Chinese woodcut and Soviet engraving of the mid-20th century were revealed, for example, similar plots and themes, as well as a special dynamic, lively and pulsating rhythm of the works. In addition, differences in the development of this type of art in both countries have been established, largely due to the preservation of their own national style by graphic artists. It is claimed that Soviet graphics contributed to the variety of Chinese woodcuts. In turn, Soviet artists adopted the subtleties of filigree technique from Chinese woodcuts.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the philosophical views of Swami Vivekananda, reflected in his commentary on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The text under study is one of the few Indian commentaries on the Yoga Sutras translated into Russian. The object of the study is a widespread translation of the commentary, made and published by Ya. K. Popov in 1906. The popularity of yoga as a health-improving practice increases interest in its spiritual component, therefore, the study of Vivekananda's commentary on the Yoga Sutras seems to be an urgent task. The purpose of this article is to analyze Vivekananda's commentary for the authenticity of the transmission of the content of the ancient text and the reflection of the teachings of the Bengali thinker. Since Vivekananda's commentary on the Yoga Sutras has not been studied by domestic orientalists, and has not received comprehensive coverage in foreign studies, the results of his analysis contain scientific novelty. Using the hermeneutical method, it is revealed that the philosopher forms a commentary on the ancient text mainly to demonstrate the basics of his teaching. Vivekananda's work expresses his Orient-centric position, as well as the author's beliefs in accordance with the provisions of yoga to his contemporary science. Since the philosopher's views are in line with Advaita Vedanta, the ontological foundations of yoga are interpreted by him according to this philosophical school. The commentary of the late XIX century anticipates modern ideas of the healing potential of yoga and the superiority of experienced knowledge of the Divine, and also demonstrates the predictive talent of the Bengali thinker.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the consideration of a number of stage projects by Chinese directors, in which the work of the writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov is reinterpreted. Analysis of such productions and projects as the international drama festival "Chekhov Forever" in 2004, a hybrid work based on Chekhov's story "Three Sisters" and Beckett's novel "Waiting for Godot" by Lin Zhaohua in 1998 and 2018, a double performance by Stan Lai based on the works "I take You by the Hand" by Carol Rocamora and "The Seagull" Chekhov 2014 , etc . It allows us to trace innovative approaches to reading Chekhov's works in the context of the life of modern Chinese society. These works cause a great resonance not only in the professional environment, but also among the mass audience, who invariably penetrates the depth of Chekhov's images, the subtlest shades of emotional experiences; the Chinese audience finds themselves close to the problems, hopes and aspirations of the heroes, brilliantly transferred to the actual socio-cultural environment of China, always topical and recognizable. The scientific novelty of the article is connected with the fact that the nature of mastering the creativity of the Russian playwright in the theater of the East is a fairly new and at the same time promising topic for research. The conclusions and results of the study can become the basis for further studies of the specifics of the adaptation of foreign dramaturgy in the national theatrical tradition on the example of other countries and regions.

Abstract:
The article discusses the current topic of international interuniversity exchanges in the field of theater education. The subject of the study is the interaction of theater schools in Russia and China within the framework of the experimental Russian–Chinese theater and educational project of the Central Academy of Drama (Beijing) and the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts (St. Petersburg). The project has been implemented since 2015. According to the terms of the project, Russian and Chinese teachers of acting and special disciplines work together in St. Petersburg and Beijing. Upon graduation, students receive diplomas from two universities recognized in both countries. The author, a direct participant of the project, analyzes the results of this experiment from the position of compliance with the principles and requirements of the dialogue of cultures.  The novelty of the research lies in the substantiation of the cultural value, the prospects of the modern version of the interaction of theater schools in Russia and China. The results of the study were the following conclusions: in the implementation of the Russian-Chinese theater and educational project, all the basic conditions are present and fulfilled, which make it possible to determine the events, events and their results that took place within the framework of the project as a full-fledged dialogue of cultures. Today, as never before, there are points of contact and mutual enrichment of the cultures of Russia and China. There are mutually significant cultural ties, dialogue and interaction of cultures. This variant of intercultural interaction is also productive from the point of view of innovation, creating a unique field of cross-cultural experiments.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the reflection of Russian realities of the mid XVIII century in cultural sphere. The article touches upon the problem of cross-cultural communication between Russia and France in the XVIII century: the theme of “French presence” in the Russian art and theater culture of the first half and the middle of the XVIII century. The acquired results elucidate the characteristic features of the relations between French and Russian people during this period. The research was conducted with consideration of the unity of internal and external, subjective and objective factors within the framework of the cultural-historical process. The conclusions were made leaning on the analysis of the entire range of sources use and existing research traditions. The article reveals the contribution of the French representatives of art and culture while their stay in Russia, as well as describes the forms and manifestations of their activity that in prospect affected the image of Russia. The author believes that working at the Russian Court, the French representatives imposed the vision of their country on Russia, transforming the Russian images in the French spirit. The presented materials are valuable for the study of cross-cultural communication between Russia and France in the XVIII century. This article is important and relevant in the conditions of constantly developing cultural dialogue and determination of the new vectors of cooperation between the countries.

Abstract:
The goal of this research lies in analyzing the essence and problems of the genesis of multiculturalism and its varieties, factors of crisis in its development, and overcoming the crisis situation in a broad ethical-philosophical context. The author demonstrates that the construction of multicultural society should be based not on a limited understanding of culture as a set of religious statutes, ethnic norms, customs and traditions, but on the philosophical conceptualization of culture as a system that forms profound values, the crucial of which is justice. Special attention is given to substantiation of the categories of “social justice” and “law”, which manifest as the essential grounds of a modern multicultural society. It is demonstrated that social justice is the determining basis for the development of modern multicultural societies, i.e. the necessary condition for harmonious coexistence of individuals, groups and society as a whole. The conclusion is made that on the one hand, the globalization processes strengthen the integration, forming a single sociocultural space, while on the other hand, complicate the adaptation of ethnic cultures and their representatives, which generates tension in cross-cultural interaction, as well as inclusion and positive reliance on social justice as the fundamental value of any society allows finding the ethical measure in regulation of issues emerging in modern multicultural societies.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is certain manifestations of the impact of Western European music culture upon the works of Sergei Rachmaninoff. The object of this research is the piano, piano-orchestral and symphonic music of S. Rachmaninoff. Analysis is conducted on the particular manifestations of the impact of rhythmics that is characteristic to the Western European music and originated from it, certain melodic formulas, such as Dies Irae. Special attention is given to examination of the impact of rhythmic formulas that crystallized in Baroque period, such as “eighth with a dot, sixteenth and eighth", polyphonic rhythmics (with its specific manner of “ligation” of notes and syncopation), as well as the rhythm texture inherent to preludes and toccatas. The novelty of this article lies in the attempt to reveal the little-studied aspects of the impact of European music upon the musical language of Sergei Rachmaninoff. The conclusion is made that the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff reflects a strong influence of the European music, even his signature rhythmics, which at first glance is quite unexpected. The origins of Rachmaninoff's “rhythm formula” can be traced in the Western European polyphonic music. Other aspects of cultural interaction can also be easily identified. The acquired results can be applied in the pedagogical practice, as well as be valuable for musicologists, musicians, and anyone interested in Sergei Rachmaninoff’s music.

Abstract:
This article reviews painting and graphics of Adyghe artists, which plotlines and images resemble musical instruments, musicians, and in a certain way, music itself. The author assumes that the entire heritage in this area can be divided into three groups. The first group contains the artworks that are perceived as historical documents testifying to the presence or absence of certain types of musical instruments, ways of playing those, dances, dance positions, moves, etc.; this also includes paintings with ethnographically precise reproduction of the past or present reality, which depicts music and motions. The second group contains the portraits of prominent musicians who significantly contributed to the history of regional culture. The third group is comprised of the musical instruments and dance, which visualize something secret behind the traditional things. Each group has a special technique and means of visualization of music and musical instruments. The novelty of this research lies in examination of the canvases of Adyghe painters preserved in the funds of the North Caucasus branch of the State Museum of Oriental Art (Maykop), and are virtually unknown to the general audience; in articulation of the topic aimed at examination of means of visualization of music, musical instruments and musicians in painting and graphics; in the proposed non-homogeneous classification of painting heritage related to music, musical instruments and musicians, which can be implicated to any other regional culture; in determination of the role of this type of cultural heritage for future generation. It is stated that painting and graphics exhibited in museums are not perceives so much the past as the present, which is included in the cultural and emotional-psychological life of modernity.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the problems of professional piano education outlined by the Chinese and Russian authors. The article features a level model for description and summarization of the following relevant problems of Chinese piano education:1) locally observed (isolated) problems; 2) problems of insufficient professional qualification of pedagogical personnel; 3) absence of universal theoretical-methodological framework for preparation of the highly qualified personnel; 4) theoretical-methodological problems of fusion of the European fundamentals of pianism with the peculiarities of Chinese traditional culture. The levels are discerned by gradation of the problems from evident and local, i.e. in the experience of students and educators, to more general (abstract) problems, which being theoretical and methodological, manifest as the sources of problems of the previous level. The author reveals the sublevels of the highlighted problematic areas and makes emphasis on interconnectedness of the indicated problems. This leads to the conclusion that the source of difficulties in Chinese piano education lies in the unresolved problem of integration of the international experience of piano education into the educational realities of China. The author believes that the conflict between the national and the European in Chinese pianism could have been overcome by getting rid of the idea of incompatibility of these piano cultures and creating an integrative model of theoretical-methodological fundamentals of professional musical education, which would combine the positions of Chinese and Russian scholars and pedagogues dealing with the theoretical-methodological problematic.

Abstract:
The interest to the almost forgotten names of female writers of the Silver Ages gas grown over the recent decades. Among them is a prominent and talented Russian and Soviet poetess, translator, writer, play writer, memoirist, journalist T. L. Schepkina-Kupernik. She dedicated approximately 60 years of her life to literary work, and in 1940 was awarded the title of “Honored Master of Arts of RSFSR”. Relevance of the article is defined by the fact that presently the artistic heritage of T. L. Schepkina-Kupernik became undeservingly forgotten, even though it represents great value not only for the Russia, but also for word art history, especially for historians of theatre and literature. Thanks to the translations of T. L. Schepkina-Kupernik, the Russian stage enriched its repertoire, and the audience became acquainted with world-renown dramaturgists. Connoisseurs of the theatrical art were able to appreciate performance of the actors thanks to the memoirs on the actors and peer reviews on their stage performances. An important detail in biography of Tatiana Lvovna consists in her personal experience of acting on stage. The author analyzes the persona of Schepkina-Kupernik from various aspects of her creative work. Analysis is conducted on her work as an actress, writer, translator, and memoirist. Her contribution to the history of the Russian theater is reviewed.

Russian melancholy and Korean Han: in pursuit of beauty

Abstract:
This article is dedicated to the question of understanding of “melancholic” beauty in different cultures. The object of this research is the influence of the idea of melancholy upon comprehension of beauty in the Russian and Korean cultures. Having defined and compared “melancholy” and beauty in Korea and Russia, the author attempts to determine the specificity of “melancholic beauty” in both cultures, primarily, in Russian. Methodological foundation is the methods of comparison and ethnolinguistics that allow viewing culture based on “keywords”. First, the article provides definition to “melancholy”. If Russian melancholy is the feeling of “narrowness of the expanse” and “feeling abandoned by God”, the Korean Han is an “unrealized desire” that appears as a result of constraints or misery. Both, Russian melancholy and Korean Han contain the sense of hope; they are also similar in overcoming through creation. Then, the article explores the impact of the sense of “melancholy” upon the perception of beauty in both cultures. The conclusion is made that in Russian “melancholic” beauty, the “sadness of blank background” is usually balanced with the ornamental images that serve as a “pillar in the blankness”. The Korean “improper beauty” of meot – is the beauty of flow, rhythm and its disturbance (therefore, traditionally it is not associated with color). The feeling of Han in beauty of meot is balanced by joy of Jeong. Thus, the meot objects contain senses of both, irony and melancholy.

Abstract:
This article turns to the problem of implementation of the principles of multiculturalism in organizing the architectural layout of the European metropolises. The authors raise a question of the mission of architecture and design in establishment of the comfortable multicultural environment of a contemporary city. As an example, the article analyzes the project of a city park “Superkilen” located in one of the districts of Copenhagen, as well as reviews the projects of accommodation of refugees in the countries of European Union. In conclusion, the experience of organizing space in the European Union is compared with the similar experience of USSR; the directions for further examination of multicultural urban space are outlined. Alongside the retrospective analysis of literature on this matter, the authors refer to the general scientific method of analogy, which allows comparing the individual cases of application of ethnocultural symbolic in architectural projects. The work also considers the principle of social project planning and “green architecture”, discusses the separate methods of contemporary design, conversion approach applied in reorganization of the urban environment. The scientific novelty is defined by the fact that the problem of unregulated and poorly regulated due to its scale migration is relatively new for the core countries of the global system, and it most likely would not be resolved in the nearest future. At the same time, the impact of migration that is directed primarily to large cities, upon the architectural and design solutions, changes in housing development, recreational zones within the urbanized territories, has not previously become a subject of research. The exceptions are the development within the project Ersamus + Jean Monnet: Multicultural Europe: City Planning Based On The Principles of Social Integration”. This article is written in the context of this project.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the phenomenon of the Western European Renaissance in its interpretation by the Russian philosophy and culturological thought, as well as examination of the phenomenon of Renaissance in application to the Russian history of culture. The article conducts a comparative analysis of the views of the Russian philosophers and researchers upon the phenomenon of the Western European Renaissance in general, and its connection with the Russian historical and cultural tradition. The Renaissance culture was being thoroughly examined by the Russian philosophical scholars, art and literature experts, and historians. At the same time, their assessments at times strike by their originality and non-traditional research approach, as well as are quite ambiguous and ambivalent. The author attempts to analyze the fundamental these on the topic of Western European Renaissance altogether, and clarify in which way the Russian view and interpretation of Renaissance differs from other, particularly classical European vision. The main conclusion consists in the fact that the Russian philosophical thought contains a specific and critical opinion regarding the phenomenon of Renaissance, and the researchers of Russian culture often raised a question about its correlation with the history of Russian culture and art. It is no coincidence that particularly acute interest towards the Renaissance emerged within the Russian thought in the early XX century, when Renaissance has become one of the head topics of contemplation among the Russian philosophers, and art community of the Silver age. The bloom of the cultural and philosophical thought of the early XX century and the “Silver Age” of the Russian literature are evaluated as the Russian Renaissance, which concurred with the general European era of modernism.

Abstract:
This article is dedicated to one of the main issues of philosophy in general and Chinese philosophy in particular – the problem of categories. In the center of the research is the definition of the term “category” and search of the first categorical ideas within the archaic thought of Ancient China. The author also examines of the most valuable texts acquired during the archeological excavations (the end of the XX century) – treatise “Taiyi Shengshui” (“Great One gave birth to water”), which represents an example of the early categorical thinking in China. The methodological orientation consists in focusing attention on primary sources, as well as structural moments in the Ancient Green and Chinese categorical schemes. The process of formation of the categorical thinking is demonstrated in comparison with the similar process of the early Greek philosophers. The author gives a positive answer to the question of “whether or not the categorical thinking exists in the Chinese philosophy?” Among the pre-Socrates philosophers, the fourfold of the initiate elements serves as the first categorical generalizations. The first attempts of categorical perception of the world in the philosophical thought of Ancient China can be considered the basic classification patterns (binary, ternary, quinary) that lie in the foundation of the entire traditional culture and philosophy of China. The text “Taiyi Shengshui” (“Great One gave birth to water”) provides a different perspective onto the cosmological aspects of such imperative classification pattern as quinary, as well as gives chance for a deeper understanding of the analogy between the philosophy of Ancient China and philosophical constructs of the early Greek philosophers (including Thales of Miletus).

Abstract:
Today the expression “intercultural communication” more and more often is being understood as a so-called “humanitarian stamp”, especially by the representatives of technical disciplines. At the same time, it is not just the process of dialogue between cultures, but a relatively independent sphere of scientific knowledge that studies this dialogue from various humanitarian positions. Despite the fact that as a phenomenon the intercultural communication exists for several thousand years, only in the XX century it becomes a scientific discipline. The author follows the origins of the scientific research of intercultural communication, as well as gives a review of its most famous theories emerged in the previous century. Special attention is given to the practical application of these theories and knowledge from the area of intercultural communication in the XXI century. The main conclusion consists in the fact that the scientifically substantiated theories and models are required for solution of the practical tasks of social interaction within the intercultural paradigm, which have emerged in the previous century due to political and socioeconomic reasons. This is namely why the development of such direction as intercultural communication was justified by the historical path itself. The scientific novelty lies in the statement that the process of establishment of intercultural communication as the area of knowledge is being illustrated in the context of modern problems in various spheres of life, which it is meant to solve.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the two philosophical concepts that belong to distant from each other philosophical movements: Anekāntavāda of Jainism and antinomian monodualism. The object of this research is the logical-philosophical aspect of these concepts. The authors carefully examine such aspects of the topic as the foundations for comparison of the reviewed concepts and their common features. The article demonstrates that Anekāntavāda and antinomian monodualism are the nonclassical modal multivocal logical-philosophical systems. This is why they can be subjected to a comparative analysis. Special attention is given to the causes of the determined correlations between Anekāntavāda and antinomian monodualism. The main common feature of Anekāntavāda and antinomian monodualism, which unites them with each other and counterpoise to majority of the Western logical-philosophical systems, is the principle of irreducibility of opinions. On various ontological bases, particularly platonic and dharmic, originates one and the same pattern that produces similar logical-philosophical systems. This pattern is based on the gnoseological intuition of irreducibility of opinions, generating from intuition of the endless multiplicity of the universe. The gnoseological intuition of multiplicity demonstrates independence form the ontological basis characteristic to one or another philosophical system. The mental pattern, realized in form of the considered logical-philosophical systems, will be greatly demanded in the modern post-globalization era, which on one side is characterized by the global unification, and on the other – by escalation of the local conflicts. This research is one of the few that compares the Russian with one of the Eastern philosophies; the philosophy of Frank with one of the movements of Hindu philosophy; as well as one of the first to compares the Jainism with one of the directions of Russian philosophy.

Abstract:
The subject of the research is the evolution of cultural philosophical views in Russia. Russian philosophy of culture has solid philosophical traditions. Generally speaking, Russian philosophy has a wide scope of cultural and philosophical issues such as culture and civilization, cultural diversity, equality or hierarchy of cultures and hierarchy of values in culture. Throughout the XIXth century spiritual attitudes and dominating worldview tendencies had been changing. Russian philosophy underwent the periods of Romanticism in the 20s - 30s of the XIXth century, Slavophilism and Westernism of the 40s- 50s and passionate nihilism and materialism of the 60s. In the 70s Vladimir Solovyov started his preachment about the universal all-encompassing unity and integral knowledge. In the second half of the century the development of the social thought was associated with the Narodniks movement. Even though those were absolutely incompatible prerequisites, the philosophers had the same goal to teach a man his own ways of life based on the principles of human nature. In the course of her research Spirova has used the methodology of history research. In addition, she based her research on cultural and philosophical classical works that connected cultural issues with the overall process of social progress. For the first time in the academic literature the author of the article examines Russian traditions developed in the sphere of philosophy of culture. The author shows that in Russia philosophy of culture often preceded European philosophy in stating particular issues of historical development. Long before Oswald Spengler, Nikolay Danilevsky raised the question about cultural diversity and historical fate of different cultures. Konstantin Leontyev discovered crisis processes in culture long before that topic was acknowledged by European philosopher. The author of the present research also demonstrates diversity of cultural philosophical themes in Russian philosophy.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the review of the International Likhachov Scientific Conference held on 14-15 May 2015 in St. Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences. The main problem of the conference was the global challenges of the modern world and national interests. The author of the article analyzes the main questions of the reports and speeches and makes conclusions about the main trends of the discussion. As a key moment of the discussion the idea of the nation is revealed. This idea is complex and self-contradictory due to the specifics of its formation and history of the development in modern society. The article includes a description and analysis of selected reports and synthesizes them to identify the problems of the dominant ideas. The main conclusion of this review is that the main idea of all the reports and approaches is the idea of internal instability, and contradictions of the idea of nation which requires a thorough theoretical analysis of all situations connected with national interests.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the assessment of philosophical grounds for creating the terms that would explain the demand for social changes and revolutions based on subjective experience. For European classical philosophy revolutionary state of mind can be 'removed' only by self-consciousness while under the conditions of individual consciousness revolutionary query is unavoidable as an element of reflection. Can the tradition 'take' the place that German classical philosophers 'prepared' for self-consciousness? Does the tradition contain revolutionary energy? The opposition between revolution and tradition allows to extend the prospects and horizons of philosophisizing through involving other philosophical systems including Indian classical darshan into the scope of their philosophy. Another important traditional philosophy of India is the philosophy of Mimansa. Representatives of Mimansa developed their own conceptual framework allowing to 'bind' revolutionary energy and somehow eliminate contradictory dialects of self-consciousness whle avoiding revolutions and demands for radical social transformations. In his research Paramonov has used the comparative-historical method, philosopho-comparative approach to culture based on the study of the main works of M. Petrov, D. Zilberman, A. Paribka and V. Lysenko. The scientific novelty of the research is caused by the fact that the author searches for subjective, i.e. transcendental, cognitive and psychological grounds for such concepts and phenomena as 'revolution' and 'tradition' and compares Western European and Oriental (Indian) mental attitudes associated with these concepts and phenomena. The author describes the social and political environment of Indian traditional philosophy and offers his interpretation of the mission and functions of Mimansa as one of the darshans (i.e. branches of Indian philosophy).

Abstract:
The paradigm of Arab-Islamic philosophy is quintessentially different from that of West-European philosophy: the former is based on the procedure-oriented way of thinking and the latter is based on the substance-oriented thinking. The phenomenon of Persian philosophers is caused by the fact that they were raised in Arab-Islamic civilization and operated categories of Arab-Islamic philosophy but did not write in the Arabic language that would convey the idea of procedurality more effectively. They wrote in the Persian language which mechanisms better suited for describing the picture of the world created by the substance-oriented consciousness. In her research Korneeva analyzes the extract from the philosophical treatise written by Nasir Khusraw, Persian philosopher of the XIth century. Such analysis allowed to define the mechanism of translating Arabic terms into Persian. Special attention is paid to the problem of translating philosophical terms from Persian texts of Arab-Islamic philosophy in the Russian language. The author offers the two variants of translation of the extract from Nasir Khusraw's work. One translation is made based on the substance-oriented paradigm of thinking and the other is made bsed on the procedure -oriented paradigm. The results of the research have demonstrated that when translating Persian texts of Arab-Islamic philosophy, it is necessary to take into account the meanings of Persian words and terms but relate them to their Arabic equivalents and Arabic way of thinking. Thus, it is impossible to create an adequate translation of Persian texts written on the basis of the procedure-oriented logic into Russian without additional commentary.

Abstract:
In her article Nikonova discusses the problems associated with the idea of the dialogue of cultures in the modern world. These problems are associated with the origin of the idea of the dialogue of cultures from the foundations of modern European individualism and subjectivist conception of cognition. Western European way of thinking is characterized by internal contradictions. According to the author, development of the humanistic ideal and recognizing the value of a unique human being according to the structural conditions of its formation have depersonalization, dehumanization and violence as its reverse side. On the basis of a number of papers presented at the XIV International Likhachev Scientific Conference, an overview of the different positions in relation to the possibility of the dialogue between cultures is provided. The author analyzes the changing views on the dialogue of cultures in the light of the growing tension in modern society, and also examines the philosophical foundation of the current situation. As a result, the dialogue of cultures in the modern world is shown as the possibility that is still to be opened which causes the extreme urgency of the ongoing philosophical debate on this topic.

Abstract:
Studies in intellectual and cultural history deal with the ideas of the Renaissance Neo-Platonism in a much different way during the late 19th century and 20th century. One of the main figures of these researches is Marsilio Ficino (1433-1499) who is well-known for the historiosophic conception of prisca theologia and also for his translations of all Plato’s and Plotin’s works and writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus as well as commentaries on them. Interpretations of Ficino’s thought change dramatically the complex epistemological attitudes to the Renaissance. The article focuses on the works devoted to the philosophy of Marsilio Ficino and analyses the immanent theoretical and contextual (social, institutional) background for the emergence of the Renaissance studies in Anglo-Saxon intellectual world in the middle of XX century as a separate and self-consistent field of research. It is shown that the crucial point in this process is the appearance of German immigrant scientists in the Anglo-Saxon intellectual context and the successful institutionalization of their research projects and programs. Thus the history of humanities manifests itself through continuity and interaction between intellectual influences and social expectations which could not be reduced mechanically to the constellation of the ideas of autonomic disciplines established in the national scientific contexts.

Abstract:
The research subject is the co-existence of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Martin Heidegger in an integrated
world where, according to Martin Heidegger and Russian religious philosophers, time and being, space
and time, being and mind, being and human, all kinds of individualities are one of the kind even though each of
them has their own peculiarities. This co-existence fulfils the idea of the all-encompassing unity and contains the
mystery of the ‘world historical event’ that encompasses the past, the present and the future. The purpose of the
article is to discover similar and different features in lives, creative works and worldviews of a Russian composer
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844 – 1908) and a German philosopher Martin Heidegger (1889 – 1976). The research
methods include the following: the comparative analytical method with the elements of the biographical method,
philosophical analysis of Martin Heidegger’s writings and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s compositions with the use of
explicit and implicit data of the metapoetical approach and the generalization method. The novelty of the research
is caused by the following: 1) the author summarizes Martin Heidegger’s views on ‘co-existence’ and performs
the comparative analysis of Rimsky-Korsakov and Heidegger; 2) the author describes similarities and differences
in attitudes of the Russian composer and German philosopher to their homeland, nature, their own work and
eternal problems of existence; 3) the author discovers the importance of the natural environment in formation of
Rimsky-Korsakov’s and Heidegger’s world views, creative methods and results of their life; 4) the author describes
similarities and differences in their traditional and poetic aspirations, attitudes to the idea of statehood, people
and God. The author shows that those attitudes and aspirations were influenced not only by natural, geographical
and individual features but also national, ethnic, social and historical factors as well peculiarities of their art style
and logic. Conclusions: the virtual dialogue between the artist and the philosopher is a free expression, interaction
and complementarity of their souls. According to the author, we are witnessing the true co-existence of the two
personalities, nations and cultures. This makes us think that the positive development of relations between Russia
and Germany is quite possible just like between other countries of the world.

Abstract:
The author of the article describes personal qualities of Oriental actors in communication with the West.
Based on the example of new Indian intellectuals — philosophers of the Bengali Renaissance (from the XIXth till the
first third of the XXth century), the researcher shows the difference and similarity of their personal position. These philosophers are the Others both for their Indian surroundings and Western actors of the cross-cultural communication.
Along with the Indian identity, this difference defines the specific role of Bengali philosophers and their work created
in the dialogue with the West. The methodological basis of the research is the concept ‘Soi-mêmecommeunautre’ (I
am Myself as the Other) offered by Paul Ricoeur.
The research is based on the methods of phenomenological hermeneutics and analysis of sources telling us about the
development of the Bengali Renaissance.
The scientific importance and novelty of the research are determined by the demonstration of opportunities of applying
Paul Ricoeur’s concept to studying the phenomenon of non-Western intellectuals of the epoch of traditional
societies’ modernization and describing that phenomenon based on the Indian sources. The results of the research
show that a Bengali philosopher of that epoch acted like an autonomous Western personality that grew up in the Indian
environment which allowed him to communicate with the West on equal grounds. His ability to speak a foreign
language gives more opportunities for a philosopher to understand the West as the Other. At the same time, a Bengali
philosopher explores his own country and reveals advantages of his native land in the course of communication with
the West. The philosopher undertakes the initiative and responsibility for his own thoughts, reformative and cultural
activity which makes his understanding of the West and India even more fundamental.

The article is devoted to the review of the key polemic writings of Ancient and Medieval India concerning
the subject and researches in this sphere in the West and Russia. The author provides a brief review
of Indian polemics concerning the subject in different philosophical schools and prepares the synopsis of
arguments and researches on this topic from Pali Canon to Medieval writings. Particular attention is paid
at the history of studying the most important Buddhist treatise, Abhidharma-kośa by Vasubandhu (IV century),
studied by a famous Russian researcher Fyodor Shcherbatsky as a part of his international research
project. The author also makes the emphasis on one of the key polemic writings on the subject that hasn’t
been translated from Sanskrit into Russian yet — Pudgala-viniscaya by Vasubandhu. The author of the article
also considers the latest translations and publications on this issue in Indian philosophy and provides
the review of the recent and most interesting foreign researches, conferences and approaches. The author
concludes that this issue is poorly explored in Russia and there are no translations or researches of the main
writings on this matter in our country.

The article is devoted to the description and analysis of the structure of ‘The Conference of the Birds’ poem
written by a Persian Sufism poet and philosopher Farid ud-Dun Attar living at the turn of XII-XIII centuries. This poem
is one of the most famous Attar’s works and considered to be a brilliant example of a Sufism didactic poem. The Conference
of the Birds is an allegoric description of Sufism conception of the knowledge of God which is based on the story
of birds traveling to the palace of their king Simurgh. This allegoric description can be changed and translated to the
language of philosophy. In this case the key problem of the poem would become the problem of truth (Haqiqa) and the
general structure of the poem can be interpreted as a part of Sufism conception of the journey to the Truth.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problems of identity and transcultural dialogue based on the example
of creative work by a South Korean fi lmmaker Kim-Ki-duk. Based on the analysis of his fi lm ‘Spring,
Summer, Autumn, Winter… and Spring Again’ the author explicates the problem of personal self-identifi -
cation in connection with the growing dialogue of cultures. In this fi lm the problem of a person losing his
place in a modern world is interpreted from the point of view of Buddhism. Based on the author, the main
achievement of Kim-Ki-duk is that he revealed the concept of identity from heuristic point of view and
showed how important it is to free our minds from mass media stereotypes in order to understand the true
meaning of human identity.

Determination of the object field is still a topical issue for the sociology of culture due to the fact that the group of social and humanitarian studies has been significantly expanded lately. This group of sciences study culture and the processes of its social determination. Consequently, the object field of the sociology of culture has been limited which generally lowered the heuristic potential of the results of empirical and theoretical social researches. Abstract:
The article reveals the most important aspects of relations between culture and society from the point of view of ‘spiritual and non-spiritual’. Both culture and society appears to reach harmony at the point of ‘spirituality’. On the other hand, the latter is impossible without the system of ‘non-spirituality’. ‘Non-spirituality’ gives impulse for culture and society to resist all what is alien to them.

Abstract:
Review: the article considers the questions on how various types of culture correlate with peculiarities of human mentality. The author formed a hypothesis about sinistrocerebral (discursive) and dextrocerebral (intuitive) cultures. By analyzing corresponding texts, the author illustrated some features of such cultures. It is shown that, even though such separation is quite relative, it allows to underline some interesting aspects of cognitive strategies and cognitive styles. The author also viewed the problem of relation between intellect and culture
