Abstract:
The article is devoted to the specifics of existence of the term «neo-mythology» in the foreign humanities discourse of the XX-XXI centuries. The foreign texts, which contain the term «neo-mythology» as a key word, have become the focus of research for this article. The genesis and semantics of the idea of «neo-mythology» in foreign research papers are the subject matter of the research. The origin matters of the term «neo-mythology» in the Italian cinema of the 1950s-1960s are overviewed in detail. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the main tendencies of the development of the notion «neo-mythology». Russian and foreign researches touching upon contemporary mythology differ both in the content and in the usage of the term «neo-mythology» crucially. The following research was inspired by the necessity to find the terminological equivalents in Russian and foreign scientific works on modern mythogenesis. The research is based on structural-semantic and semantic-cognitive methods. Traditional methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison and generalization are used. The results of the research enabled us to make conclusions on the peripheral role of the term «neo-mythology» in foreign scientists’ works and conclude that their preferences lie within the terms «contemporary/modern mythology». The term «neo-mythology» in the foreign discourse is mostly used in works, which are either devoted to the research of some aspects of mass culture or closely connected with Russian humanities. The usage of the term «neo-mythology» in foreign research of mass/pop culture reflects the background of theoretical analysis of modern mass consciousness turning to myths. The conclusions made in the research are supposed to help Russian scientists work with foreign studies of contemporary mythology more productively.

Abstract:
In this article, the author examines the written judicial discourse of Great Britain. The subject of the study is the law report – a brief report on the judicial decision, published in open sources and judicial collections. These texts record the most important decisions of the highest courts. A detailed legal analysis and interpretation of the applicable sources of law in a court decision take the form of a compact, concise text, with an accurate and consistent presentation of the court's arguments. The texts of court reports are an example of a modern written legal language, in which the principles and norms of common law are updated again and again. As a unit of discourse, a judicial report is, on the one hand, a complex speech act, on the other hand, it is a text that carries a certain rhetorical (pragmatic) impact on the reader. Using the method of linguistic analysis, the author analyzes the representation of an event during argumentation and identifies various discursive mechanisms of interaction between the author and the reader. The author believes that such characteristics can be divided into retrospective and prospective, depending on their rhetorical impact on the reader. In particular, the author analyzes the functional status and pragmatic significance of such phenomena as indirect speech, subordinate clauses, verbs of epistemic modality. According to the author, the analysis of such characteristics can significantly complement the study of the intertextuality (dialogicity) of written judicial discourse, and accordingly expand our understanding of the formation and influence of the legal context.

Abstract:
This work is devoted to the study of the evolution of the profession of an international journalist on television, the study of common and distinctive aspects of the work of international observers. The subject of the research in the article is the informational and analytical television programs "International Panorama" by V. Zorin and "International Review" by E. Primakov. For the research, the author considers the following materials: releases of the program "International Review" on the channel "Russia 24" in the period from 2015-2021; recordings of the program "International Panorama" 1982-1984 on the channel "Soviet Television". The research method includes a comparative analysis of creative techniques in the work of a modern international journalist and an international observer of the Soviet school. The main objective of the study was to identify the retained and acquired (new) skills and abilities in building international programs, to detect trends in the evolution of the profession, to identify positive and negative features of the transformation of an international journalist. Such a study is being conducted for the first time, which explains its novelty and significance. During the analysis, the following conclusions were made: the processes of modification in the profession of an international journalist are inevitable. With the development of information technology, there is widespread access to information, respectively, interest in the resources of the Internet platform is growing every day. The methods of work of journalists are changing, who need to adapt to the requirements of a modern audience, prepare content that is interesting to most viewers. Programs with entertainment content have the highest ratings, therefore, in order to retain the audience, the hosts of international political programs are forced to submit complex analytical information through the focus of entertainment genres. As a result, there is a daily modification of journalistic genres, transformation and loss of classical techniques in work, a departure from the Soviet school of international journalism. However, despite the changes in the International Review program, Yevgeny Primakov holds the bar for high–quality international analytics - the content of his releases has not become entertaining, all the experts of the program are highly qualified specialists in their field.

French translations of “Eugene Onegin”: on the conveyance of stylistic patterns

Abstract:
This research is dedicated to the topic of multivariate translations. Leaning on the text corpus that contains 16 French translations of A. S. Pushkin's novel “Eugene Onegin”, analysis is conducted on the peculiarities of conveying certain characteristic stylistic patterns in French texts alongside other stylistic techniques of the original, as well as changes in translations depending on the poetic form chosen by the translator. The selected extensive material trace traces the evolution of translators’ approach towards the stylistics of Pushkin's text over time. The article focuses on the chapters III and VIII of the novel. Comparative analysis demonstrates the dependence of the stylistic aspect of translation on the poetic form chosen by the translator. Prose translations provide more accurate stylistic equivalents than translations of the verses. Poetry translations are divided into two groups: 1) accurate compliance with the of Onegin’s verse; 2) departure from the rhyme pattern of the original. The frequency of transmitting stylistic techniques of the original in both groups does not demonstrated significant systematic differences. The author determines the consistencies in conveying certain stylistic patterns in various French translations. Periphrases, comparisons, inversions, and metaphors most of the time receive stylistically accurate equivalents in all translations; while metonymy and polysyndeton with conjunction “and” do not. The scientific novelty lies in examination of the text corpus that contains virtually all existing full translations of the novel “Eugene Onegin”.

Abstract:
The relevance of analyzing the speech aspect of political communication of Russian female lies in the fact that today the current focus of attention is the questions of creating a political image of state and public figures for achieve the needed social effects. A significant role in the process of creating the image is assigned not only to physical appearance of the politician, but also to peculiarities of their communication with the audience. The goal of this article is the analysis of speech portrait of a public linguistic personality on the example of modern Russian female politicians. The research employs contextological analysis and semantic-stylistic analysis, which allows revealing the semantic content of speeches and determining various stylistic functions in linguistic practice. Characteristic is given to the internal and external side of the personality image, specificity of its formation in the minds of the audience, peculiarities of the speech portrait of prominent Russian female politicians. The author pinpoints the important role of language in the sociopolitical and public spheres of communication. The conclusion is made on the degree of presence of masculine and feminine traits in the linguistic portrait of female politicians, the factors that substantiate such combination, as well as the desire of the female politicians to represent themselves as a “person of the people”. The analysis of speech portrait is conducted on the example of public speeches, polemics with opponents, etc, which implies an outline of a political position using speech techniques for effective resolution of the set tasks.

Abstract:
The subject of the research is foreign policy issues covered by China's political media discourse. The object of the research is China's political media discourse. The author of the article examines such aspects of the topicas 'analytical concept of China's political media discourse, structure and features' and 'discursive practices'. The main method used in the research is the analysis of media texts of news and analytical channels 《CCTV 中文国际》, 《CCTV 中文国际频道》 and 《深度国际》 browseable by the Russian audience on 'nettlesome' foreign policy issues. The researcher focuses on the issues related to the language development of such political discourses as 'American-Chinese Trade War of 2018' and 'USA's Withdrawal from a Treaty' in China's state media. Using the methods of qualitative and quantitative content-analysis, critical discourse analysis combined with methods of contextual political analysis, the author of the article analyzes essentual features of China's position in international relations. The main result of the research include description of peculiarities of discoursive practices in China's media. The concept of China's political media discourse covered in this article combined with interdisciplinary methodology cause the novelty of the research because there are the aspects that have never been a matter of complex research in Russian language studies so far. The author's special contribution to the analysis of political discourse is the discourse-analysis of untranslated analytical broadcasts of China's media. The author renews the problems of the political discourse and defines the main linguistic features of China's media texts (based on the examples of 《CCTV 中文国际》 channel).

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the analysis of ideological discourses around the Soviet mass song that have certainly made the influence on the development thereof. Since the moment of creation of the USSR and up to 1960s the musical culture of the Soviet Union had been under full control of the government (all mass media and means of producing and distribution of cultural products were in state hands. According to the Party's opinion, a new country needed a new art. Therefore, in the very first years the USSR created the genre of Soviet mass song. In fact, it was the only form of vocal and instrumental art that was permitted in the country. The interdisciplinary nature of the subject has made the author to appeal to the historical culturological and discoursive methods of analysis. The first researchers of the mass song believed the main fature of the song to be its conformity to the principles of nationality, ideological commitment and specifity, however, today researchers view ideological bias as the main feature of the Soviet state singing culture. The latter reflects the opinion of the researches of those times, too. Based on a number of examples, the author of the articlel demonstrates how the Soviet 'meaning-making machine' functioned.

Critical Discourse about Russian Rock-Culture in Soviet Musical Samizdat Press

Abstract:
In this article Ganskaya focuses on the texts of Soviet musical samizdat press, the only specialized musical periodicals of those times (1970 - 1980s). The language and format of their articles were obviously dictated by the environment. Just like Western journalists created the mythology of rock-music, Russian authors did not only adopt it to the Soviet environment but even tried to impose their own values and stereotypes as opposition to both censored Russian culture and commercial Western culture. The in-depth analysis of the matter requires the use of both discursive and historical-cultural analysis as well as analysis of not only texts but also the environment in which they had been created. Despite the fact that researchers of Soviet/Russian rock underline the importance of samizdat press for the rock-culture of those times, the phenomenon of censored musical press is still understudied. This article is supposed not only to attract attention of researchers to this gap but also to partly fill it in.

The Role of Printed Media in the Development of Uruguayan National Identity in the First Third of the XXth Century

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the development of Uruguayan national identity and how this process reflects in the printed media texts. In addition to that, the authors of the article also analyzes the historical environment of that period. Russian studies of Latin America have not studied Uruguay as the priority area of research. However, Uruguayan peculiarities of the national variant of Spanish have been traditionally discussed by a number of researches that cover quite a wide language material. The corpus of this research includes only Uruguayan texts, over 100 El Dia newspaper issues and other printed matter of that era. The methodological basis of the research is the discursive historical approach that implies the synthesis of linguistic data and historical, sociocultural and political contexts. The authors also define the main language means and discursive strategies used to develop the national consciousness. The authors conclude that texts of the printed media of the 1900 - 1930s have played a crucial role in the discursive construction of Uruguayan national identity that is created as the 'civil' cosmopolitan type balancing between Eurocentrism, regionalism and pan americanism and supported by sports achievements and mass events.

Relevance of Elements in Multimodal Texts

Abstract:
The subject of the research is the multimodal elements in 100 articles of electronic edition of The New York Times of March, 2017. Solntseva examines various kinds of such elements, in particular, photo, video, hyperlink to associated articles, hyperlinks to the front-page news, subscription offer, advertising and technical links. The author focuses on frequency with which these elements can be found in electronic articles. The author also analyzes the dependence of the frequency of multimodal elements on their relevance. The author applies the method of empirical analysis (observation) and describes kinds of multimodal elements in the aforesaid edition using the method of continuous sampling as well as uses the method of classification depending on the frequency of each element in a given or other articles. The main result of the research is the author's description of 5 relevance levels of multimodal elements and discovery of the inverse relation between information relevance and frequency of references to this information in a given or other articles. This dependence can be described using the following formula: the more likely an element is to appear in an article and the more frequent similar elements are found within an article, the lower their relevance for the article is. The author also discovers the inverse dependence between the frequency of a multimodal element and relevance thereof: the more relevant information is, the more frequent this information can be found in articles and the more frequent this information is expressed in the best parts of the article.

Alexei Parshchikov's Elliptical Poetics

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the particularities of Parshchikov's poetics that prove the unique artistic method of the poet whose creative work can be regarded as the metarealistic trend and has caused a stir in the environment of underground poetry and culture in general. The object of the research is the poem 'Departure' from the series of poems 'Dirigibles'. As many researchers say, this series of poems written by Parshchikov is one of the most difficult to perceive, comment and interpret. The research methodology implies analysis of a poetical text, discovery of intertextual connections and appealing not only to the traditional theoretical base created by Mikhail Epstein's in the 80's but also to modern concepts of poetry. For example, the author of the article analyzes the concept of 'total recycling' offered by Dmitry Golynko-Folfson. The research implies comparison of particular poetic interpretations and theoretical constructs. As a result, not only many 'dark' places of a poetic text have been uncovered by also the concept of Golynko-Folfson has been clarified. The main conclusion of the research is the proof of the idea that Parshchikov creates a unique 'elliptical' version of metarealism that makes a reader to doubt the singularity of the historical time and demonstrates how 'gaps' between events and objects in the artistic world paradoxically prove their principal continuity.

Abstract:
The primary purpose of the advertising message and slogan of social advertising in particular is the influence of the addresser to the addressee of the message. The impact effect is a consequence of the linguistic action. The advertising slogan may have certain features of manipulative discourse. The addresser manipulates the consciousness of the addressee, implicit introducing in the psyche of his destinators opinions, attitudes, determine purposes.The manipulative acts is the acts with the implicit illocutionary purpose. The article analyzes the reasons of the use of indirect speech acts as the most frequently used in the slogans of social advertising.

Abstract:
The object of research in this article is modern English musical compositions. The matter of research is the way to use them as a sociolinguistic phenomenon at classes with students for increasing their interest for learning English. The author analyses the phenomenon of English musical compositions under globalization and Internet space. Particular attention is paid to importance of learning English in this context and to significance of the problem of choosing means and authentic materials for teaching English to students. Didactic potential of modern English songs is revealed.The method of research is sociolinguistic and linguodidactic analysis of a modern English composition as an art phenomenon under globalization as well as author’s own experience in teaching students. The author concludes that potential of English songs, which unite people all over in globalized space, should be used for increasing interest for learning English. These compositions are authentic language material and have methodological potential both linguistically and pedagogically. The unity of social, linguistic and linguodidactic approaches form the novelty of this article.
