Abstract: The research subject of this article is the musical The Sound of Music by the composer Richard Rodgers and the writer Oscar Hammerstein II—one of the brightest examples of classic Broadway musicals. The author describes the main genre and style, as well as the musical’s dramatic peculiarities, and attempts to address the following research objectives: to analyze the piece’s narrative and genre components, the main characters’ intonation complexes, the most significant groups of characters and their vocal techniques, and to trace the influence of Austrian genres in the musical’s musical fabric. The author uses the following methods: cultural-historical, comparative analysis, and music-style and music-history analysis. Despite the obvious significance of this piece of music and its thumping success, The Sound of Music hasn’t been given enough scholarly attention in scientific literature. The author arrives at the conclusion that the distinct dramatism, engaging plot, intricate music drama, and diverse blend of genre and style are the hallmark features of this musical, which has been instrumental in the musical’s enduring success over time.

Abstract: The research subject is the musical by the composer Richard Rodgers and the book writer Oscar Hammerstein II “The Sound of Music” - one of the bright examples of classic Broadway musicals. The author describes the main genre and style and dramatic peculiarities of the musical and attempts to solve the following research tasks: to analyze the narrative and genre components of the piece, the intonation complexes of the main characters and the most significant groups of characters and vocal techniques, and to trace back the influence of Austrian national genres on the music fabric of the musical. The author uses the following methods: cultural-historical, comparative analysis, and the methods of music-style and music-history analysis. Despite the obvious significance of this piece of music and its thumping success, the musical “The Sound of Music” hasn’t been studied thoroughly enough in the scientific literature. The author arrives at the conclusion that the special dramatism, the bright plot, the developed music drama, and the multifaceted genre and style alligation are the peculiarity of the musical and form that unique quality that brought success in the past and still makes the musical successful.

Abstract: The article deals with the historical and artistic significance of the musical "Hair" by G. McDermott in the context of the development of the genre. The musical texture of the musical, synthesis of styles: jazz, blues, country and soul, Indian music, syncopated rhythms of funk, folk-rock melodies are analyzed. But special attention is paid to the introduction of a "fatal" component in the style of the musical of the 1960s, which led to the innovative nature of this work, which is first analyzed in the context of genre-style synthesis. The key differences between theatrical performances and the film-musical by M. Forman are determined. In the conducted research, the following methods were used: cultural-historical, comparative-analytical and method of musical-style analysis. The musical "Hair" was previously studied mainly from historical, cultural and theatrical positions. The article "Hair" in London" by V. Ryapolova is devoted to the analysis of the London staging [10]; there are references in the works of E. Andrushchenko "The Musical and Rock Opera in Russian musicology of the 1980s: back to the roots of the research tradition" [1], V. Sulina "Russian musical in the context of the development of the genre" [15], the monographs by L. Danko [4], E. Campus [5], Kudinova [7], Hanish M., Krasnov G. V. [14], foreign publications [17, 18, 19, 20, 21]. In the context of genre-style synthesis and analysis of musical language, this musical is considered for the first time. The article concludes that G. McDermott's musical "Hair" became a starting point in the development of a new kind of genre – rock musical, influenced the formation of rock opera, as well as the development of modern musical and theatrical art in general.
