Abstract: The subject of the study is a conceptual metaphor in the English-language media text. The current vocabulary associated with coronavirus infection is taken as an analysis. The cognitive paradigm of language research is based on the general methodological principle of cognitive linguistics: to draw conclusions about the structures of consciousness from the facts of language. The article examines certain images in relation to the description of COVID-19 in the modern English-language media text. Special attention is paid to the selection of ontological, orientation and structural metaphors, where the target sphere is SARS COV-2. Metaphorical expressions are analyzed, which are recognized as an important tool for the study of the conceptual sphere of a person. The main conclusions of the study are the fact that the COVID in the English text is considered as an ENTITY, an ANIMAL and the SEA. Highlighting the conceptual metaphors COVID-19 IS A SUBSTANCE, COVID-19 IS AN ANIMAL, COVID-19 IS A SEA, we came to the conclusion that the British consider coronavirus infection as something tangible, dangerous and endless.Different metaphors highlight different sides of the same phenomenon, and the speaker/writer always chooses between them, guided by current communicative goals. Each metaphor inevitably emphasizes, or highlights, some aspects of a particular concept, and obscures others.

Abstract: The subject of this research is the word-forming structure of beekeeping terms in the Kumyk, Russian and English languages. The article describes the distinctive features of terminological word formation in the area of “beekeeping” in the aforementioned languages. For determining the type of word formation, the author uses the number and composition of the components. The similarities in common literary and terminological word formation are identified. It is demonstrated that in the corresponding terminology of the Kumyk language prevail the terminological phrases. The prevalence of phrases in the languages under reviews is explained by the fact that the term not only denotes the concept, but to a certain extent reflects to its content. This requires the creation of mainly terms-phrases that can reflect the characteristics of the concept to the fullest. On the other hand, the growing number of terminological phrases in the Kumyk language indicates that beekeeping terms in the Kumyk language are translated from the Russian language, therefore part of the terms first appear as a result of clarification of their meaning. Whole terms comprise approximately 30% of all terms of the corpus. These terms are naturally included in the terminological phrases as the nuclear words and defining in the terminological phrases. In beekeeping terminology of tge Kumyk and English languages, prevail N/R + N/R models, which the authors believe is a reflection of common literary word formation.

Abstract: The subject of this research is the function of infinitive forms (participle and adverbial participle) in polypredicative constructions in the Kumyk language. Special attention is given to concept of “polypredicative construction”. Predicative unit is an alternative to a simple sentence as part of the unit of higher level. Kumyk language indicates a strict sequence of parts: the dependent predicative unit is in preposition to the main predicative unit. It is noted that the center of polypredicative construction is the connectivity indicator – analytical (a functional word) or synthetic (a morpheme as part of a dependent verb form). Therefore, since the dependent verb form in the Kumyk language takes end position as part of dependent predicative unit, the synthetic connectivity indicator is placed between the main predicative unit and the dependent predicative unit. The novelty of this consists in compiling a list of infinitive forms (adverbial participial and participial) used in polypredicative constructions in dependent predicative unit in the Kumyk language. Polypredicative sentence marks eight adverbial participial forms and four participial forms. All types of participles, excluding present participle are used as an independent verb form – in simple sentence and in the main part of polypredicative construction.
