Abstract: This lecture is a part of the course on "Masters of European Prose", which was prepared by V.Nabokov for the students at the Wesley College and the Cornell University, where he taught from 1940s to 1950s. In this lecture V.Nabokov, being a thinking reader, and a perseptive and interested researcher, gives his students a lesson on attentive reading, with due attention paid to the artful details and paradoxical visions of the world of Charles Dickens

Abstract: In his works Otto Rank reviewed the basics of the classical psychoanalysis. Speaking of the psychoanalytical therapy, Otto Rank believed that at its final stage, the therapy process is when a patient is born again. Our unconsciousness views the therapy process as a symbolic birth and this is why a patient perceives himself as a new-born, in other words, a spiritual child of a psychoanalyst. Therefore, psychotherapy allows a patient to overcome the trauma of his birth. 

Abstract: Liza Picard describes the process of preparation for the International Industrial Exposition in 1851. She also describes the openning and popularity of the Exposition with the Great Britain citizens as well as the role of the Exposition in the development of culture and industry. The author also raises questions about education, in particular, school education (so called 'ragged schools' as a great achievement of the Victorian age) and talks about different institutions, courses and available libraries.
