Abstract: The subject of the research is the concept of elegance of style in the coverage of Russian handwritten rhetorical manuals of the 18th century in Latin. On the example of one of the most important requirements for eloquence, the peculiarities of ideas about style in Russian rhetoric of the 18th century are revealed. The texts of handwritten manuals compiled in Moscow, Kolomna, Nizhny Novgorod, Vologda, Ryazan, Smolensk are analyzed in the context of the New Latin rhetorical sources, among which the most important are the rhetorical treatises of Feofan Prokopovich and Johann Gottlieb Heineckius, dating back to the first half of the 18th century. Their influence on the formation of Russian rhetorical thought is traced. As a result of the study, conclusions were drawn about the sources of the concept of elegance of style as the most important quality of eloquence, various interpretations of the concept of elegance in separate manuals were considered, and the main components of this concept were identified. A special contribution of the author to the study of this topic is that the texts of educational handwritten books intended for teaching rhetoric in secular and religious educational institutions of Russia in the 18th century have become the material of scientific analysis. The results obtained shed light on the Latin stage of the formation of Russian rhetoric and can be used for further research in this area.

Abstract: The article deals with the evolution of the rhetoric of academic communication in the genre of university lecturing. The main emphasis is laid on its socio-cultural, historical, psychological and phonetic antecedents beginning with the times of antiquity to these days. It is the speaking image of the lecturer and those rhetorical means that facilitate one’s interaction with the university audience that come into focus. The task is to show how knowledge is shared via university lecturing with respect to traditions of public speaking and the linguoculturological realia of this or that epoch. In other words, what comes to the fore in this paper is continuity and optimization of intellective communication in the present-day Global English space. The main conclusion the authors arrive at is that to introduce any changes in the non-native speakers’ rhetoric of academic discourse a really comprehensive cognitive processing of the genre of lecturing is required. Different aesthetic and ethical aspects of academic English are to be taken into account and weighed up from different angles, including its innovative phonostylistic design in the West and the traditions of intellective communication in other parts of the globe.

Abstract: This article examines the ability of the language to include new everyday realities in neologisms, namely in recently formed phraseological locutions in the German language. The Russian phraseological units (primarily idioms) are involved for comparative purposes. It is demonstrated that the process of creating phraseological units is not left far back in the past, but remains to the present day. The article considers one of the aspects of figurative reflection of reality by means of phraseological neologisms that emerged in the XIX and XX centuries. Phraseological locutions, and idioms in particular, which designate everyday realities, incorporate valuable information on the historical and cultural life of the country of the studied language. The conclusion is made on the degree of reflection of everyday realities in phraseology, as well as on possibility of using phraseology for reconstruction of representations on the life of people of a particular generation. Most of the time, neo-phraseological locutions occur in the language through the metaphor based on figurative reinterpretation of the phenomenon, or relevant situation. Restoration of the resemblance of situation may contribute to using phraseology for reconstructing the representations on the life of people of a particular generation. However, restoration of the image of the past is not always accurate. The emergence of certain phraseological units correlates with a particular historical situation or event.

Abstract: The article is devoted to the transformation of the genre of lamentation in modern youth mass media. The ancient genre of lamentation (complaints), as well as the genre of crying in ancient Russian literature, assumed regret for the lost, mourning for losses, sadness that it will not return. The specificity of the discourse of regret in the interpretation of modern youth bloggers and journalists is that they regret the loss of a country in which they themselves have never been or lived only for a short time. We are talking about numerous regrets about the lost Soviet Union performed by people who were already born in the Russian Federation. The subject of the study is the rhetorical presentation of the image of the lamented object in its transformation from antiquity to the present day. Comparative and comparative analysis, consideration of the world-modeling categories of the text in their comparison with the corresponding discourse of antiquity and Ancient Russian writing are used as research methods.    The novelty of the research is due to the comparison of the paradigm of ancient and Old Russian rhetoric with modern topos of regret – lamentation, crying. As a result of the research, the preservation of the main topical structure of the genre of lamentation is proved, which, in our opinion, is not associated with a direct orientation to ancient samples, but with their indirect perception through numerous texts that use orientation to the corresponding paradigm.
Conclusion: the genre of lamentation / crying has been continued in the modern tradition in the form of reconstruction according to a similar topical and compositional scheme. The commonplaces of this genre penetrate into the composition of text and video fragments dedicated to the Soviet Union. The analysis of videos and texts shows that we are talking about a kind of reconstruction of a complex of traditions associated with different historical epochs, and in fact does not fully reflect any of the real historical epochs of the existence of the state.

Abstract: The subject of this research is the transformation of classical ancient rhetoric in modern media, namely of such a mandatory part of the classical presentation of speech according to Marcus Fabius Quintilianus, as rebuttal to an opponent's argument. The article employs posts of the authors of various blogs on the entertainment portals and their interaction with users’ commentaries. Response to an objection was an important element of the canon of presentation of speech in antiquity: by doing so, the speaker demonstrated a confident command of the topic, and at the same time, that the topic is objectionable and requires argumentation. The reduction of competitive eloquence turned this part of the canon into a ritual weakened its ties with the actual speech practice. In modernity, we can observe the return of rebuttal to an opponent's arguments as an independent genre – the author in his publications counts on rebuttal and prepares in advance. The novelty of this research consists in the fact that the Neo-Quintilian paradigm of modern youth media is analyzed for the first time. The main conclusions lies in revelation of transformation and deformation of the classical canon: being the so-called cultural constant, the classical canon of ancient rhetoric is conveyed to modern users through interaction with accepted patterns. The modern young audience perceives the canon indirectly, through approved or criticized examples of eloquence, eliciting rfagments thereof – thus, the semantic connection of argument and rebuttal is one of the versions of the deformed, but recognizable canon.

Abstract: The object of this research the communicative peculiarities of negotiation language on the example of English-language movies. Due the growing attention to the means of successful negotiations, the authors raise the relevant question on the need to consider speech aspects of negotiation process. The goal of this work is to analyze the communicative strategies and tactics (“pressure”, “high opening offer”, “disqualification”, “guilt”, “salami”) in the process of negotiations from the perspective of their effectiveness in achieving desired communicative goals.
  Combination of theoretical overview of the strategies and tactics of negotiation, as well as analysis of the effectiveness of applying tactics to achieve goals of negotiating parties were chosen as the methods for this research.
  The novelty of this article consist in reference to communicative peculiarities of negotiations in movies that have not previously been the object of analysis in the area of communication studies. The results of this research allowed determining the key strategies and tactics of negotiation in the analyzed films, as well as defining their effectiveness in the negotiation process.

Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of rhetoric and polyphonic textual means and their relations in Fedor Dostoevsky's preface to his novel The Brothers Karamazov. In this research Tkachenko examines rhetoric methods that give a polyphonic tone to the text as well as peculiarities of a polyphonic text and means of affecting the reader. The rationale of the research is caused by the fact that rhetoric structures are still an understudied issue in the studies of Dostoevsky's prose while the author's preface has a big rhetoric potential as a literary form. The research is caused by the fac that the novel polyphony of Dostoevsky has been viewed from the point of view of rhetoric poetics for the first time in the academic literature. Moreover, the author of the article describes different modes of polyphony and for the first time describes the chronological polyphony and polyphony of a textual space partially related to the specific features of the author's preface and important for the main plot of the novel.
